===Orthography=== For the most part, American English is the preferred variation in English orthography. This applies to the spelling of words (<span class="yes-text">center</span> not <span class="no-text">centre</span>) and grammar of sentences (<span class="yes-text">burned</span> not <span class="no-text">burnt</span>). Vocabulary differences (such as autumn and fall) can be excused. For more examples, refer to [[wp:American and British English spelling differences|this guide on Wikipedia]]. There are some exceptions to this: *<span class="yes-text">grey</span> not <span class="no-text">gray</span>. *<span class="yes-text">pyjamas</span> not <span class="no-text">pajamas</span>. *Double constants are preferred when used in British, Canadian or Australian English (for example, <span class="yes-text">labelled</span> not <span class="no-text">labeled</span>). *Formal ''official'' names of objects or standards. These include: **<span class="yes-text">metre</span> not <span class="no-text">meter</span> (''Le Système international d'unités''). **<span class="yes-text">aluminium</span> not <span class="no-text">aluminum</span> (''International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry'').
