Description
The Warden, internally referred to as the Templar, is an enemy that appears in Polluted Wasteland II and Challenge Trials. It also spawns once in Fallen mode during the Hidden Wave. It has very high health with high defense and average speed. It has an ability where it fires a glowing purple laser from its chest to stun every tower and damage every unit that comes in contact with it, making it very dangerous and a number-one priority.
The Templar is a boss which appears on wave 35 on the Fallen difficulty. It wields a minigun which can be used to fire at and stun towers, and also has a constant shield effect, which makes almost every attack deal two damage at maximum, with the exception of collision damage. Although the shield visual will disappear sometime after spawning, the Templar still retains this shielding effect, as the visual goes away just to get out of the way.

Appearance
The Templar appears to be a futuristic warrior, with shiny metal armor and a laser minigun which glows neon red. It is almost covered with its black and light grey armor, with the exception of some of it its arms which reveal a light green tone. It wears a helmet with horns, with its eyes covered with a red strobe of light. It is slightly larger than the average zombie.
The Warden is a large humanoid entity with a waist in its rig. It has a dark blue skin color and the ends of its limbs are covered in a cyan fluid. It has an energy pack on its back with an antenna that emits yellow sparks along with batteries connected to it. This energy pack has grey straps. The Warden also has metal plating on its body. Its chest has a gaping cavity, revealing its rib cage and a pink cube inside, which emits light blue particles. It has red wounds that span horizontally across the chest cavity.

Strategy
This only appears in Fallen mode. This does not have a counterpart in Beginners, Molten or Golden modes.
*The Warden is a high health enemy which is also Hidden, making it particularly dangerous.
**High DPS towers like the Accelerator or Minigunner should be used to take the Warden down.
**Towers like the Ranger can be used if combined with a way to make it target the Warden, like the Spotlight Tech or Firework Technician.
**The Commander should be used to boost the firerate of these towers.
**The Engineer is recommended, as its sentries will continue firing even when the Engineer is stunned by the Warden's Heartfelt Laser ability.
**The Pursuit cannot be stunned by the Warden's Heartfelt Laser ability.
**The Military Base's units deal full collision damage to the Warden, regardless of its defense, making them quite useful.
***Do note that their ranged damage is still decreased.
*It is recommended to place your towers away from the path to avoid getting stunned by the Warden's Heartfelt Laser ability.
*It may be viable to have a cheap distraction tower to distract the Warden's Heartfelt Laser from your main offensive towers.
*When the Warden spawns, it will not use its Heartfelt Laser ability for a few seconds. Use this period of time to defeat the Warden before it can stun any towers.
*The Medic can be used to shield towers that, preventing them from being stunned by the Warden's Heartfelt Laser ability.
**Do note that this will be ineffective while the Warden is still using Heartfelt Laser, as the towers will be continuously stunned until the ability is over.
*The Gladiator's stun blocking is ineffective against the Warden, since even after it successfully blocks Heartfelt Laser's initial stun, it will be stunned again because of how long the ability lasts.
*Slowing towers like the Saboteur, Electroshocker, Warden or Freezer can be used to slow down the Warden.
**However, because of its large size, freezing towers and the Warden will slow it down for a shorter amount of time.
**Do note that the Warden will not stop using its ability when frozen or stunned.
*Defense dropping towers like the Pyromancer, Jester or Freezer can help to reduce the Warden's defense.

Strategy Sounds
{{Sounds|{{pe|
*Explosive towers, such as the Rocketeer and Mortar, can deal maximum damage towards the Templar (and other shielded enemies).
{| class"article-table align-center" style"width:750px; margin:0 auto;"
**While they have a slow firerate, they are still heavily favoured, especially with a Commander that has the Call of Arms ability activated.
|-
* Towers which focus on fast firerate, such as the Minigunner, Crook Boss or Sentry, are recommended, as they will not be heavily impacted by the shield, while slow firing towers, such as the Outlaw, will be much less effective.
! style"width:30%;" |Sound
**The Commander is highly recommended against the Templar due to its ability to boost firerate. John's Gorilla Noises, however, is not recommended against the Templar as damage is capped at two at all times.
! style"width:70%;" |Description
**The same thing applies to any other tower that may receive an additional damage buff such as Golden towers or the Cowboy's Wildest of the West ability. They will not grant any additional damage to the Templar.
|-
* You may want to set your towers to target Strongest so that they can take down the Templar quicker.
! colspan"2" |Abilities
** However, be aware that the Templar will usually spawn behind, or be overtaken by, faster zombies such as the Mystery.
|-
** Also be aware that the Summoner Boss spawns with the Templar starting from wave 36, increasing the amount of zombies to defeat.
|
* Spamming low level towers, such as the Scout or Hunter, may be largely useful, as investing into more expensive may prove inefficient for the cost, or downright useless.
|When the Warden performs Heartfelt Laser ability
* Using the Military Base, Crook Boss (for its minions) or Enforcer's SWAT Van will be very helpful due to its ability to bypass the shield effect.
|-
**Collision damage, damage from the Military Base vehicles' guns and damage from the Crook Boss minions' guns are not capped which makes them very useful assets against the Templar.
|
* Use the Pyromancer to reduce the Templar's speed so towers can attack it for longer.
|When the Warden performs Heartfelt Laser ability
**Burn damage is not limited to two, but the normal (non-burn) damage supplied by the Pyromancer is limited to two.
|-
** The Electroshocker can also slow down the Templar.
|
**The Freezer can actually freeze the Templar through its projectile or Ice Age ability.
|When the Warden performs Heartfelt Laser ability
*The Medic can be useful in cleansing nearby towers that have been stunned by the Templar, so long they aren't stunned themselves.
|-
*The Swarmer and Soldier can basically perform at their maximum power against the Templar due to their unique way of dealing damage.

Trivia
*The Warden is very similar to Warden enemy of the same name, first added in v1.3.0 for the very first version of Polluted Wasteland II.
*Templars are likely named after the Knights Templar, a Catholic medieval chivalric order, perhaps most infamously know for the Crusades.
**Despite their similarities in name, design and functionality, they are technically not the legacy and modern variants of each other, as the Warden currently seen in Polluted Wasteland II is in reality the modern version of the Templar enemy.
**The Templar's helmet is similar to the Great Helm, a helmet common in the Middle Ages (and the Crusades).
***Because of this, both of them have two separate Logbooks that require to be collected.
