I've been playing tds for a long time, and i've had several gripes with it. Over the years they've resolved most of them, but theres one I just cant get behind...

TDS simply refuses to celebrate their past. There are no references, no mentions of it, not even any design inspiration, the most they've done was brung back old scrapped characters and turned them into modern bosses or towers like void caster, or the first 3 evo towers. The only real callbacks they've made to their past AT ALL has been with umbra and enforcer. Which either way I wouldn't call umbra "classic"

Literally anything would do to actually show that they appreciate their past, I dont care if its even overhaul era stuff, its been so long that that counts. And no I dont count reusing old development assets as celebrating the past.

classic military base has existed since 2020, classic shotgunner has existed since 2022, and classic e-shocker & ranger are good, but im talking about in recent times, those two released in 2024 and 2023 respectively (which they are still lackluster attempts to celebrate tds's past_

there was only the abyss (unused enemy thats barely recognizable) and krampuses throne (which was in 2023), and no the umbra isnt classic shes been re-used constantly.

I never noticed the "railguns" unless you mean solar cannon, nor legacy hidden wave enemies in N&V lobby, enforcers old swat vans maybe my memory is mushy on that

This is ridiculous, all they do is make callbacks and it's not even hard to notice.

overhauling old designs while preserving aspects of it isnt a callback

I'm already so done with this. I'm not gonna bother to discuss with someone who doesn't even know what the word callback means.

To keep it short, look at Special Modes and Lunar Overture (Act 2). Anyways, bye.

Dude, you're nitpicking over what they callback on, but it's still obvious.

            2024 :

The Enraged enemy, the maps in The Classic Event, the first step into triggering Hidden Wave being callbacks to the original, the Hidden Wave dialogue, Awakened Fallen King, Fallen King teleport stomp animation returned for Awakened Fallen King, Molten Warlord kept his face markings he had back in latter Overhaul, Grave Digger being a remaster of the 2019/Mega variant, Operation: I.C.E is literally a Frost Invasion retelling, the Molten Monster.

            2025 :

Champion Templar being a callback to the original Templar enemy before the Fallen Enemies Beta and rework happened, Templar is renamed into Warden in Polluted Wasteland II, Null and Void Event... Nothing else, there's just so much references and callbacks in Null and Void that I'm not even bothered to list them all, Narrator literally mentions the spotlights in The Final Act as a callback to Lunar Overture.

            2026 :

The Hardcore Rework is a homage to what's supposed to be the original Hardcore Update by having the Void Caster as the final boss, releasing the first three Evolved Towers, which are Juggernaut, Operator, and Kingpin, while having its own Live Event before the update drops, the Blighted enemy, the Hardcore wave structure being reminiscent of the Legacy variant by having the same detection check waves, Mysteries return, 3 Elite Phantom on Wave 25, and Void Rushers debuting on Wave 28, the Void Keeper's name is a callback to a removed enemy named Gravekeeper, the Void Swordmaster is a reimagining of the Fallen Swordmaster, the Void Guardian is inspired by the Legacy Fallen Guardian, Void Tricksters is a reimagining of the Legacy Necromancer Boss, Wrecked Battlefield is still playable in Hardcore and Voidcore despite there being Wrecked Battlefield II.

That's not even everything, that's just what I can remember at the time. There's more, more obvious or subtle.

they are not obligated to do this

I agree with this sentiment, but its more directed towards the redesigns they make towards specific towers and enemies, which every now and then I believe they should've just enhanced their former appearance rather than morphing it into something that isnt quite my liking. My main examples being gladiators new "dominus", and unstable ice which looks dumb as fuck.

The thing is, Gladiator isn't wearing a Dominus anymore and Unstable Ice got robbed from its concept art...

Lets not act clueless, its very clear what gladiator's hood is meant to be, and I think it wouldn't have bothered me this much, if the Illumina as a sword wasn't present. Considering SFOTH holds the sword at a platform surrounded with white pillars, clearly showing how sacred the sword is. I believe instead of a barbaric animal hood, keeping the original Dominus Empyreum and only improving its outdated design would have been far better as it would show a more royal design, complimenting the sacred design of the sword. (yes, the dominus IS that serious)

I do have to agree that Unstable Ice looks far better on the concept tho

I said he isn't wearing a Dominus anymore as in, he isn't wearing a Dominus at all. It's not a new Dominus, they replaced it. And I agree, it's strange they would replace it despite being an iconic trait of a robloxian SFOTH swordmaster (since Shedletsky wore the Dominus).

However, I am also aware that I am clearly lacking the true reason and context as to why they decided that the pelt hood was better off completing the design.

celebrating not-even-a-decade-ago things and bringing back antagonists every 6 seconds would so happen to be TDS' brand identity

What about those retro maps like rocket arena and crossroads. And enforcer and the john skin and tesla, hell even assassin. and a bunch more skins. I hate when games flaunt their past at us. It think the things in tds that do are fine as it is
