Narrator

- You guys ruined me!
I spent YEARS perfecting that script and you didn't even give me a cutscene to end it?
WHO DOES THAT!? - ―Narrator talking to the T.D.S. Organization during the first Banlands cutscene
Description
The Narrator is the main antagonist and narrator of the Lunar Overture Event and The Final Act Event, as well as a main character later turned antagonist present in the Null & Void Event. He also appears as the narrator of the Halloween 2020 Event, serving as a self described artist and performer, he is also the owner of his "Solar Theatres"[1], a production group that the T.D.S. Organization was invited or brought by some other method to watch prior to the beginning of the Lunar Overture Event.
He is a servant of Lord Exo, which based on his Banlands dialogue[3], he appears to have become one in the Old World.
The Narrator also is in control of a set of hands, given to him by Lord Exo[4], similarly likely during the Old World. These hands are named Lefty and Righty. While obedient to the Narrator, they have their own mind allowing them to act by themselves and giving them distinct personalities[5], though their actions are still generally done to benefit the Narrator.
Personality
The Narrator is shown to be quick to anger. He can easily start attacking people if they made him mad, either verbally by shouting at them or physically with Lefty and Righty.
The Narrator is very passionate about his shows. He has been shown to get mad for his shown being ruined in the Null & Void Event's second night and in the third night's final cutscene, he tries to convince Lord Exo to watch his show.
Despite caring a great deal about his show, he does not seem to hold the same regard about his actors. These actors all appear to be working for him not because they want to, but because they are forced to based on many enemy Logbooks.[6] In the The Great Finale, the Executioner actor suggested a pay raise, but the Narrator laughed at him and said no.[7] The Narrator also refers to his actors as disposable on several occasions, which is best demonstrated when he turns one of his actors into a frog as punishment in The Final Act Event.
The Narrator has also been shown to break the fourth on multiple occasions, either by talking to the player themselves or by referencing in-game mechanics like cutscenes or waves.
Not much can be said about the Narrator's character from his initial appearance in the Halloween 2020 Event, as his personality was more built upon years later. In the event dialogue, he is seen to be a mysterious and knowledgeable figure, sometimes helping the player with his tips.
Abilities & Characteristics
| Abilities | |
|---|---|
| Levitation: Having no feet, the Narrator traverses the ground by levitating. The highest he has been shown to levitate was a few meters above the ground, however, he is regularly shown only just above it. | |
| Magic: While he does not use magic often, the Narrator can be inferred to be a proficient sorcerer, given how he effortlessly transformed one of his extras into a frog in the beginning cutscene of The Narratorium, and how he placed innumerable military personnel under his spell to be part of his show.[6] | |
| Possession: The Narrator is able to possess the Spectators to use as vessels for his form.[8] It is unknown if he had possessed anything other than a Spectator. | |
| Mimicry: The Narrator is able to mimic voices that belong to other people. He has first been shown to do this in The Final Act Event, mimicking Lord Exo's voice. | |
| Other | |
| Puppet Hands: The Narrator was shown to telepathically control a set of puppet hands named Lefty and Righty, that he can use for offensive and transportational purposes. With the hands, he has been shown killing/attacking Penumbras[7] and Titus, and using them to lift himself into the air. | |
Story
Old World
The Narrator becomes Lord Exo's servant and right-hand man. At some point, he is given Lefty and Righty as a gift from Lord Exo.[4]
Halloween 2020
The Narrator is present for Lord Sinister's attack on Trick or Threat Town, hiding with a God Cube fragment with him. It is unknown whether he had revealed himself to the T.D.S. Organization at this time, and whether the map's dialogue was his way of doing so.
After the attack has been stopped and the town's citizens are abandoning it, three brothers, Kronus, Ramiel and Marcellus find him with a shard next to him. He promises them that Lord Exo will bring back the town to its former glory.[9]
Between Halloween 2020 – Lunar Overture
The Narrator leads the Children of Exo to the Temple of Exo. Afterwards, he agrees to help them rebuild the God Cube.[10]
Lunar Overture
The Narrator unveils his grand show to the T.D.S. Organization.
In the first act of the Lunar Overture Event, A Dark Tale, the Narrator shows T.D.S. a retelling of The Umbra's origin, and how she came into contact with the God Cube. The same thing happens in the second act, The Haunted Past, except this time it is a retelling of the Halloween 2019 Event and the Halloween 2020 Event, where it is revealed that the Jack O' Bot and Lord Sinister were sent by The Umbra to retrieve God Cube fragments from Nightmare Carnival and Trick or Threat Town.
Things get complicated with the third act of the performance, The Great Finale, as elements of it have been de-canonized.[11] But according to the Logbooks of Actor1, Actor2, Actor3 and the Mechanical Rot, the third act did occur, but a "glitch" rewound time to before it even happened, and all the memories of the event happening began to fade away from those who participated in it.[12] Interestingly, the "glitch" not only caused a temporal shift, but a spatial one, as well.
- The Actor3 Logbook states that the actor was warped to the Act 2 set.[13]
- The Mechanical Rot Logbook states that its actor was warped to the Nil Zone.[14]
- The Narrator also appears in the Outer Nil Zone during the Null & Void Event, though as he is also stated to have done things outside of it, is it unclear if he was actually sent there during the "glitch" or not.
The culprit behind the glitch is the Rift Walker, who decided to intervene by rewriting history, leading to the event being removed from reality.[15]
Between Operation I.C.E. – Ducky Revenge
Some time after the Operation I.C.E Event, the Narrator plants a God Cube fragment inside the toilet of the Duck Realm.[16]
Null & Void
The Narrator, alongside his hands, is now stranded in the Outer Nil Zone, either banished there by the Rift Walker or through his own volition. There he meets various characters, first being Titus being carried by the Null Guardian, who the Narrator attacks as he believes the Children of Exo used him for their own gain then left him to die.
Later, he also finds out multiple T.D.S. Organization agents were sent there. Shocked to see them there he similarly starts attacking them, this time for ruining his show. He is interrupted by by Titus, which leads to the Narrator slapping him away. He then introduces them to the Outer Nil Zone and tells them who the Null Guardian is. Shortly after, both the T.D.S. Organization agents and Narrator find out that the Null Guardian is going to execute them, leading to a temporary alliance between the two.
After the Null Guardian is killed, a failsafe in his body activates and sends them over directly where the Rift Walker currently is, that is fighting the Children of Exo to gain their half of the God Cube. Seeing an opportunity to free Lord Exo, he ends the alliance with the T.D.S. Organization by grabbing the Rift Walker with Righty. Afterwards, he continues to keep him restrained until he is corrupted and possessed by Lord Exo.
He is also fully present for Lord Exo deciding to take over Kronus' body, though he does not intervene. Instead, after he finds an appropriate body and does everything he wanted, he invites him to his newest premiere. This invitation is declined, as Lord Exo no longer sees any use in him. Disappointed, he leaves and instead invites the T.D.S. Organization to it.
The Final Act
The Narrator overtakes an unspecified military base, transforming it into his stage and cursing its personnel to be a part of his show.[6] He sends an invitation to the T.D.S. Organization, and after consideration from the Commander, he leads a team consisting of the Engineer, Freezer, Scout, Mortar and himself to The Narratorium where they investigate his activities.
The Narrator's show retells Lord Exo and Two X's origin within the Old World, and how the two brothers came into conflict with each other, resulting in the war that resulted in Lord Exo's imprisonment, the destruction of the Old World, and the creation of The Meta. At the end of the show, when the Narrator is defeated, his hands begin violently shaking and later deflate, something he claims is Lord Exo killing them. After this, he strikes up a deal with the Commander, promising to take him to Lord Exo in exchange for something not revealed to the player.
