We can't blame them for the way their world thought of magic, unfortunately. I doubt they wanted to make their son a monster by him existing, but it's just how their kingdom saw people like him.

mf wouldve been burnt at a stake if they just told penumbras "yeah show off those magic powers" independently of his royal status, i think they just dont wanted the dude to tarnish their reputation, and to get himself killed
