"The starter tower of the game."
―Store Description

Summary

[edit]

The Scout is a tower that is the classic default tower that is obtained upon first joining the game. The Scout has a grey torso, yellow skin, dark grey pants, very dark grey shoes, and carries a Makarov pistol below Level 5 and dual Beretta 92 pistols at Level 5.

It is very cheap in comparison to other towers, but this is the only advantage of this tower. The Scout has low DPS meaning that it is not effective later on during the game. This tower does have a golden skin, which is expensive to obtain.

Across all difficulties, the Scout is considered an early-game tower.

Strategy

[edit]
  • The Scout is mainly used as an early-game tower and does not fare well in other conditions.
    • Past the Slow Boss in Beginners and Molten, and past the Dark Necromancer in Golden and Fallen, the Scout becomes excessively weak against the zombies that spawn.
    • The Soldier or Demoman (towers that are extremely cheap to unlock) are far better late-game compared to the Scout.
      • Additionally, the Sniper and Hunter can be unlocked immediately when you first play the game. While they may not be as good as the aforementioned towers, they are a good upgrade for the Scout later on during a match.
  • The Scout has cheap Hidden detection. Therefore, this means that the Scout can be used to defend against Hidden enemies while the player works on getting more expensive towers.
  • The Scout can be used as a cheap way to distract zombies from using their abilities on more useful towers.
    • For example, the Tank can be distracted as it may throw rocks at the Scout, not more powerful towers such as the Minigunner.
  • The Template:Colour Scout is a very effective tower early-game and even mid-game due to its high increase in damage. For Beginners and Molten modes, this can also be a very cheap end-game tower.

Trivia

[edit]
  • The Scout's name, appearance and function is loosely based on the Tower Battles version of the same name.
  • The Scout's Default Level 3 armor is the Scout armor from R2DA.
  • The Scout's older pistol looks similar to the Kel-Tec P-11.
  • The Level 4 upgrade description still says the firerate decreases from 0.65 > 0.5, whereas it is actually a decrease from 1 > 0.5. This is because the Level 2 upgrade used to grant a 1 > 0.65 decrease and the developers forgot to update the upgrade description.

Description

[edit]

The Sniper is a long-ranged cliff tower that deals relatively high damage while having a slow firerate. The Sniper is free for new players, similar to the Scout. It has a khaki torso, grey pants, black shoes, and carries a Remington 700, which is changed to a Barrett 50 Cal. on its last upgrade.

Its utility comes from its very long-range, allowing the Sniper to target zombies from far away. It deals relatively high damage and has a massive range, but has an extremely slow firerate. It does not fare well with faster zombies, such as Shock zombies, due to their speed, which will lead them to run past a Sniper's range before they are targeted. The Sniper also has a low DPS, even at Level 5, so the tower does not fare well later on during the game.

It is best to use Sniper early to mid-game due to its low cost.

Strategy

[edit]
  • The Sniper is very effective early-game because of its cheap cost and long-range.
    • It is also useful against Hiddens since upgrading them to Level 2 is quite cheap.
  • The Sniper should not be relied on too much due to its very slow firerate resulting in it being easily overwhelmed later on in the game by hordes.
  • The Sniper deals very little damage and has pitiful DPS, but, to compensate, has a large range, so it can keep shooting enemies for a while.
    • You can pair this with the Commander so that it will shoot faster.
  • Later on in the game, to maximize damage, you should change Snipers to target Strongest or replace them with stronger towers.
  • If a member on your team has Outlaws, sell your Snipers so they have more cliff space to place their towers.
  • The DJ Booth can easily expand the range of the Sniper to cover most, if not all, the map.
  • The Sniper can be a great tool in event maps against high health zombies that initially spawn, like the Zombegg. Their cheap placement allows you to save up for more expensive towers, like the Minigunner.

Trivia

[edit]
  • The Sniper has the highest total range out of all the towers in the game at a number of 47, 7 higher than the Outlaw.
  • The Sniper, Outlaw, and Mortar are currently the only cliff towers.
  • When the game was in alpha, the Sniper's upgrade stats weren't displayed on this tower's upgrade description, but it was simply referred to as "sans long gun."
  • Interestingly, clicking on the Sniper in the store suggests that this was bought for Coin 100. However, this is no longer the case as the Sniper is now free.
  • Prior to the 4th of March 2020, the Sniper originally had a Desert Camo Sniper and lied on its front.
    • After this update, the Sniper now has a position similar to that of the Outlaw.

Description

[edit]

The Paintballer is a splash tower that can be bought in the store for Coin 150. This was previously redeemable for free with the code JOHNROBLOX. It has yellow skin and its outfit consists of a blue torso, black shoes and grey pants. It initially wields a basic paintball gun.

It boasts a higher firerate than other splash towers in exchange for lower damage. The Paintballer falls short of other towers in most parts of the game, especially DPS as its highest capability of 10 is worse than other towers such as the Demoman and Enforcer. This means that it isn't that useful later on during the game. This does however detect Hiddens right from the start, meaning it can be used as a cheap hidden defense tool.

This is mostly regarded as an early game tower.

Strategy

[edit]
  • The initial cost and initial upgrades for this tower is low. It may be a feasible early game tower, but this tower is by no means a good late game tower, and, depending on the situation, it is even worse than the Sniper.
  • The Paintballer does have hidden detection from the start, which may save time and money instead of buying expensive upgrades for other towers, such as the Crook Boss. However, chances are you will have enough money to get hidden detection for towers such as the Minigunner by the time Hiddens/Ninjas first appear.
  • The splash damage for the tower is quite minimal. The Demoman is recommended if you want a suitable splash damage tower for later in the game.
  • This tower is ridiculously hopeless against fast zombies due to the slow projectile speed.
    • Even zombies such as the Speedy can outrun the projectile from Paintballer.
  • Firerate can be increased if the Paintballer is set to target Closest as you do not need to wait as long for the paintball to explode.
    • This is especially recommended for the Paintballer due to the slow projectile speed.
  • The Paintballer's damage cannot be boosted by John's Gorilla Noises ability.

Trivia

[edit]
  • During the Alpha stage of the game, the Paintballer didn't have an explosion effect until Level 5.
  • The Paintballer was added before the John tower and was formerly "JOHN ROBLOX's" tower until the John was released.
    • He himself considered this a weak tower.
    • This used to be redeemable with the code JOHNROBLOX, making it the first ever tower redeemable with a code. It was then replaced with John, who then had the redeemable code JOHNRBX.

Description

[edit]

The Demoman is a splash-damaging tower. While targeting a specific zombie, it will affect those around the target, dealing splash damage. Splash damage is calculated depending on how far away a zombie is from the blast. For example, if the explosion radius was 8, all zombies 4 studs away from the blast would receive 50% of the total damage. All zombies 6 studs away would receive 25% of the total damage, and so on.

The Demoman is great for everything except the Golden enemies encountered in Golden mode and certain Fallen enemies in Fallen mode, as they are immune to explosive damage. It is also relatively weak against endgame bosses directly, though it can be useful in tackling the minions. This can be considered an early game to mid-game tower, though it can be very useful in later games, due to its splash and surprising strength despite its very low unlock cost.

Strategy

[edit]
  • The Demoman outshines the Sniper and Soldier as a cheap tower, as its versatility is exceptional.
    • However, in Golden and Fallen modes, the Demoman is comparatively weak as the splash damage does not affect Golden zombies and Fallens.
  • The main weakness of the Demoman is the slow firerate.
    • Faster zombies, such as the Bolt, can easily get out of the range of the Demoman.
    • Additionally, these mobs may get out of range of the initial explosion as it takes time for the grenade to leave the Demoman and hit the path.
  • Golden and Fallen modes have zombies that are immune to splash damage, so don't rely on the Demoman too much on these difficulties.
  • Firerate can be increased marginally if the Demoman is set to target Closest as you do not need to wait as long for the grenade to hit the path.
  • The Demoman's damage cannot be boosted by John's Gorilla Noises ability.

Trivia

[edit]
  • Demoman was inspired by Team Fortress's Demoman.
    • The Level 3, 4 and 5 upgrades are a direct reference to this as they both wear a black vest with a red shirt underneath.
  • The original Demoman weapon was the Newtrat's Tuskinator.
    • This has now changed into various weapons.
  • The Level 1 Demoman throws steils from R2DA.
  • The Level 2+ Demoman uses a Chinalake, a reference to R2DA.
  • Interestingly, the Level 5 icon remains outdated as the Demoman now uses the M32A1, and the upgrade no longer grants a Dual-Wield weapon.

"A cheap and effective burst tower."
―Store Description

Description

[edit]

The Soldier is a low-tier tower that initially fires in bursts of three. It can be bought for Coin 250 in the store. The Soldier has a green torso, yellow skin, has navy pants and wields an M16A2.

The Soldier fires in bursts with a short delay between each burst. It is quite a cheap tower meaning it is effective in the early game. It gains hidden detection at Level 2 so it is an effective counter against Hiddens. However, during the later stages of the game, it is eclipsed by better towers such as the Minigunner.

This is considered as an early game tower. Mid-game, the Soldier will deal mediocre damage and is easily overshadowed by other towers with higher DPS and damage, such as the Cowboy and Crook Boss. Late-game, it becomes extremely ineffective against bosses and high-health zombies, with this tower only being capable of chipping away small amounts of health.

Stats Table

[edit]
The firerate only applies to the burst which does not include the time between bursts.
DPS is calculated as (Total Damage × Burst Count) ÷ (Cooldown + Firerate). Actual DPS may vary from time to time.

Strategy

[edit]
  • The Soldier is very effective early-game due to its cheap cost and decent damage compared to the zombies that come at that time.
    • However, it quickly loses value as the waves progress. It can be easily overwhelmed by hordes.
    • It should not be relied on mid to late-game.
  • The Soldier is able to change targets between bursts if another eligible zombie enters its range. This avoids the need to swap targeting every so often.
  • The Soldier's firerate can be boosted by the Commander, but it does so in an unusual way.
    • Firerate is normally boosted by the Commander as expected.
    • Cooldown is decreased four-fold to the stated boost. For example, a 10% boost will decrease a Level 0 Soldier cooldown to 0.6 (a 40% boost).

Trivia

[edit]
  • The Soldier is very loosely based on Soldier from Tower Battles.
  • The Soldier's firerate is not the time in between the bursts, but the time in between each bullet in the burst.
    • For this reason, DPS cannot be calculated correctly in any circumstance due to the irregular cooldown.
  • The firerate of the Soldier may glitch out during the cooldown between shots if a Commander is present.
    • This will not negatively affect the performance of the Soldier in any way.

"Freeze zombies temporarily with a freeze ray!"
―Store Description

Description

[edit]

The Freezer is mainly a support tower that, as the name suggests, freezes certain zombies. It can be bought in the store for Coin 1,000. It has a blue shirt, grey pants and carries a cryogun to give the appearance of cold.

It targets a single zombie and fires projectiles that will explode, normally damaging and freezing zombies in a small radius. However, some zombies have an immunity to the freeze unless you use its special ability, the Ice Age. Despite damaging zombies, this is mainly regarded as a support tower due to its low DPS and high utilization of its ability.

At Level 3+, the Freezer will gain Frost Mark which slows zombies after they thaw for a short period of time.

Strategy

[edit]
  • The Freezer should not be used on its own (due to its low DPS) but in conjunction with other towers.
  • Pairing a Sentry with a Freezer would allow the Sentry to reach its maximum DPS potential.
  • The Frost Mark can be an effective way of slowing down hordes of zombies as it slows zombies down after they are unfrozen, similar to the Pyromancer. It slows zombies down by about 20% for a short duration.
    • The slowing effect stacks with the Pyromancer's burn.
  • The Freezer's Ice Age ability can be used to freeze zombies that cannot be frozen using the Freezer's Frost Mark ability.
  • An effective way to manage huge waves of zombies (especially during the Hidden Wave) is to place the Freezer, upgrade it to Level 5, use the Ice Age ability, sell and repeat.
    • This allows lots of time for towers to kill all the zombies.
    • Be sure that you have enough money to carry this out. This technique is rather expensive.
  • This tower cannot detect Hidden zombies.
    • It can, however, freeze Hiddens with its Ice Age ability.
  • Firerate can be increased slightly if the Freezer is set to Closest as there is less delay in the projectile hitting a zombie.
  • If the zombie is fast (such as the Error), it is highly unlikely that the Freezer will be able to freeze the intended target as the projectile speed is quite slow.
    • To increase the chances of the projectile hitting its intended target, you can set targeting on zombies to Closest.
  • A zombie cannot be frozen by the Freezer if they have the Frost Mark effect applied to it.
    • This also includes the Frost Blaster's Frost Mark ability. Any zombie that was recently frozen by the Frost Blaster cannot be frozen by the Freezer for as long as the Frost Mark effect is applied.
    • If you intend to purely slow down zombies, then the Freezer isn't best combined with the Frost Blaster since the Freezer has a greater freeze time compared to the Frost Blaster.
    • This also applies to the Ice Age ability. Any zombie that has recently been frozen, and therefore meaning that the Ice Mark effect is still applied to it, cannot be frozen by the Ice Age, which has extended freezing time compared to that of the projectile.
  • The Freezer will always deal direct damage to the zombie it was originally targeting, even if it wasn't caught in the projectile explosion, due to the direct damage.
    • However, the zombie targeted may not be frozen if the projectile didn't explode near them.
  • The Freezer's splash damage cannot be boosted by John's Gorilla Noises ability.
    • The Freezer's direct damage can still be boosted by John's Gorilla Noises ability.

Trivia

[edit]
  • Before the MEGA Update, the Freezer's ability was called Ice Drop which dropped ice on the first zombie within the Freezer's range, freezing all zombies (except major bosses and those immune to the Ice Drop) within a 10 stud radius for 6 seconds. It also used to cost CashScript error: No such module "Money". and had a 75s cooldown.
    • This made it unusable against zombies under a roof since the drop will never collide with them.
    • The Freezer's Ice Drop was able to freeze the Gold Titan and Molten Boss prior to the 15th August, 2019. The Frost Hero was also granted immunity to the Ice Drop when added.
  • Prior to the MEGA update, the Freezer fired in bursts.
    • The ice projectile did not have a splash effect and impacted immediately with a zombie.
  • The Level 1 upgrade name is a reference to R2DA's Frost Knuckles.
  • The Freezer is the only explosive tower to retain its direct damage. This means that it can deal damage towards a targeted zombie that has explosive immunity (like the Golden) but cannot deal damage to other zombies with explosive immunity if they weren't the intended target.
    • This means that the total damage is effectively doubled for the targeted zombie, if they are caught in the projectile explosion.
    • Interestingly, enemies with explosive immunity cannot be frozen by the Freezer's projectile and are immune to splash damage. However, they are not immune to direct damage, if they were the enemy targeted.
