Description

The Old World was the first realm to exist in the story of Tower Defense Simulator. It is unknown whether the realm has existed eternally, or was created. A plethora of living beings called the Old World their home, none more prominent than Two X and Lord Exo, who shared power in the realm.[1]

The aftermath of Two X and Lord Exo's war in the Old World turned the realm into a hazardous and uninhabitable landscape.[2] Its original inhabitants migrated to Paradise after the war.[3]

Inhabitants

Two X and Lord Exo can be considered one of the first, if not the first beings to inhabit the Old World.[1] The governed over their own sides of the Old World, but eventually fell into conflict with one another over opposing views of how creation should be treated, resulting in the war.[4]

The Rift Walker and the Narrator are two beings that originate from the Old World, they both seem to serve as right-hand men for their respective masters. The Rift Walker helped Two X create the Meta after the war, but it is unknown what his activities before and during the war were. Before the war, the Narrator was a performer[5] and self described "artist,"[6] aside from this, he helped instigate Lord Exo's freedom from the God Cube.

The Null Guardian inhabits the Outer Nil Zone, but whether he originated from the Old World is unknown, as it is likely he could have been sent there by the Rift Walker after the creation of the Meta.[7]

Myriads of other living beings also populated the Old World, such as Two X and Lord Exo's respective followers and creations.

Although the Narrator refers to the Nil Zone as an uninhabitable wasteland[2] that was left by everyone[3], the Null & Void Event enemy Logbooks point to this not being entirely the case, as it is suggested through them that the Nil Zone contains its own ecosystem of species, some enemies even evolving from other enemies.[8] One such enemy, the Null Beast, is used by the Narrator to represent Lord Exo's followers[9], which implies some of these entities used to live in the Old World. This in turn suggests that when it turned into the Nil Zone, they for unknown reasons chose to or could not leave it for Paradise.

Locations

Nil Zone

The T.D.S. Organization's first encounter with the Old World was through the Nil Zone, after a group of their agents was banished there by the Rift Walker. The Nil Zone is all that remains of the Old World after the war.[10]

The region takes the form of a purple and black wasteland, with sharp rock-like formations throughout the landscape. The terrain is filled with various objects from the game's past as well as bygone architecture from before the war started. The sky above the landscape swirls with purples and pinks, and is dotted by a myriad of stars.

The Nil Zone now acts as a prison to entities who pose a threat to the balance of the Meta, with the Rift Walker banishing those who he deems dangerous enough. The Null Guardian is tasked with supervision of the Outer Nil Zone, acting as the warden to those banished there.[11]

Within the Nil Zone exists the Temple of Exo, a structure connected to Lord Exo in some way. While not explicitly stated, the Temple of Exo is heavily implied to be where the events of Blind Faith take place, where Lord Exo was freed from the God Cube. According to the Narrator, the temple is a place where God Cube shards can be merged together into a larger whole, as the Children of Exo were lead the temple, making the Narrator coalesce their collected fragments together.[12]

It was discovered by the T.D.S. Organization that the Nil Zone is the "space between realms" that transcends the fabric of the Meta, being the medium that interdimensional portals use to connect to other realms.[13]

Special, unstable energy exists within the Nil Zone that was created because of the war.[14] It is due to this energy that the Nil Zone is able to corrupt life,[15] and replicate forms of life from other realms, as seen during the events of Outpost 16.[16]

Void

The Void is a primordial force that has existed alongside Two X and Lord Exo before the Old World even had a recognizable form.[19] Unlike Two X and Lord Exo, it is hard to gauge whether the Void is a sentient intelligence of its own, acting more as a force of nature.[20] This is corroborated by the fact that the Void Caster exists as an agent of the Void to manifest its will.

The Void was sealed away by Two X and Lord Exo eons ago, as they could not destroy it. Though, this could not stop the Void's influence entirely, as it still managed to spawn the Void Caster. During the war in the Old World, the Void Caster was promised by Lord Exo that if she helped him fight Two X, he would ensure that the Void can inhabit the world.

When Lord Exo was defeated, Two X focused his attention on hunting down any traces of the Void that remained in the Nil Zone.[21] But yet, that was not enough to completely eradicate it, as the Void still managed to destroy realms created by Two X.[22]

After Lord Exo was freed, the Void Caster still remembered the promise they made eons ago, and quickly mobilized her troops to expedite the process of having the Void consume realms, causing the Void Rifts that appeared throughout the Meta.[23]

One could call it an incurable infection." ― Void Caster's description in its Logbook
  21. ↑ "When Lord Exo was sealed away, Two X turned his attention to the Void itself, hunting it throughout the Nil Zone. So the Void slunk back into the depths from which it was sealed, and the Void Caster went to the one place Two X would never follow. Straight into the heart of the Void itself. Even he would not set foot there. Even though a God cannot be killed, there are things worse than death that the Void was patiently waiting to do." ― Void Caster's description in its Logbook
