"Burn multiple enemies at once and chip away defense."
―Store Description

Description

The Golden Pyromancer is mostly regarded as a support tower as it deals below par damage, even at maximum upgrades. Its main gimmick is its ability to burn enemies, dealing extra damage to afflicted opponents. Be aware however, that the Golden Pyromancer can speed up enemies. It is an upgraded version of the Pyromancer, obtained from the Golden Skincrate for Coin 50,000, if you own the Pyromancer.

If an enemy is set alight, the flames will be applied to the enemy until the burn time runs out. There are two types of damage the Golden Pyromancer can apply. The first is Normal Damage which is non-burn related. This can pierce through multiple enemies, even damaging hidden enemies. However, the Golden Pyromancer cannot directly attack hidden enemies at any level. The second is Burn Damage which is applied for every second an enemy is set alight. Both damage types can damage lead enemies. The Golden Pyromancer will attack any enemy, even if the enemy is on fire. However, if there are multiple enemies in its range, it will attack the first enemy that is not on fire.

The Golden Pyromancer in comparison to its normal counterpart the Pyromancer has increased burn damage, normal damage and range, but it is more expensive to place down. This is considered to be a early-game to mid-game tower, but can be used late-game to decrease defense of enemies, if there are any that spawn.

Strategy

  • The Golden Pyromancer is considered an early to mid-game tower, because of its cost efficiency and moderate damage.
    • Early game, this can be used to kill weaker enemies, such as the Normal. At higher levels, it is able to cripple swarms of weak enemies such as the Heavy.
    • Be aware that if an enemy is quick enough, such as the Error or Circuit, they may get out the Golden Pyromancer's range before they are set on fire.
  • The Golden Pyromancer will set every enemy in its range on fire. In what order the Golden Pyromancer will choose its target is based on its targeting.
    • If there is only one detectable enemy in the Golden Pyromancer's range, then it will always target that enemy. This also occurs if all current enemies in the Golden Pyromancer's range is set on fire.
    • As the Golden Pyromancer can set lots of enemies on fire at once, due to its pierce and targeting of multiple enemies, it can be very effective against hordes of enemies such as the Mystery.
    • Fast enemies may be able to avoid being set alight.
  • Be aware that when an enemy is set alight, their speed is increased slightly.
    • You can use Toxic Gunner to cancel out the speed increase.
    • This should not be a major issue against hordes of slow moving enemies, such as the Giant Boss.
    • However, fast enemies, such as the Glitch and Circuit, could prove this to be a hazard.
    • For this reason, the Golden Pyromancer should not be used against major bosses, like the Fallen King, even if they can be set on fire.
      • It can still be used against summoned enemies that the boss may spawn, however it still may set the final boss on fire.
  • The Golden Pyromancer can also be used to drop an enemy's defense by half when it is Level 2+.
  • The Golden Pyromancer is less effective against those with burn immunity, such as the Molten.
    • However, the Golden Pyromancer can still deal non-burn damage to them.
    • Since they cannot be set on fire, their speed cannot be increased.
  • The Golden Pyromancer is best placed near the beginning of the path. This lets it kill weaker enemies and decrease defense of enemies before they reach your other towers.
  • The Golden Pyromancer will not be able to set enemies on fire when placed on high grounds, like ones on The Heights.
  • Because of the Level 5 Pyromancer's flame size, it can set flying enemies on fire, if there is a detectable enemy near it.
    • The Golden Pyromancers that are below Level 5 will not be able to set them on fire, as their flame size is too small to be able to hit them. However, the Lead Balloon can still be set on fire if it lost one of its balloons.

Trivia

  • The Golden Pyromancer alongside Accelerator are the only towers to have hidden detection at Level 0.
    • Prior to the Overhaul update, the Ranger and Paintballer had hidden detection at Level 0, but that was removed.

Notes

  1. Total Elapsed Damage is calculated as Burn Damage × (Burn Time ÷ Tick).
