Description

[edit]

The Golden Crook Boss is an upgraded version of the Crook Boss, obtained from the Golden Crate for Coin 50,000 if the player owns the Crook Boss. It can also be bought in the Daily Store for Coin 55,000. The normal counterpart, the Crook Boss, can be claimed by reaching Level 30 or alternatively purchasing it for Robux 300.

Initially, the Golden Crook Boss has high damage, though it has rather low range. However, with later upgrades, the firerate decreases and its damage increases significantly. The range also increases and becomes comparable to towers like the Minigunner. The Golden Crook Boss has the ability to spawn Golden Pistol Goon from Level 0, which with later levels get double spawns. Additional, at Level 3, it spawns Golden Tommy Goon 1, which gets replaced by Golden Tommy Goon 2 at Level 4. Every time it summons an unit, it stops attacking for a second. All the units have flying detection but only the Tommy Goons have hidden detection.

In comparison to its normal counterpart, the Crook Boss, the Golden Crook Boss has higher damage and slightly higher range, but it is more expensive at all Levels. It also spawns stronger units.

The Golden Crook Boss can be considered a mid to late-game tower, as its expensive cost for extremely high DPS makes it a great tower later on during the game and has sufficient DPS to remain strong in the extra-late game.

There is a limit of five Golden Crook Bosses per player. Additionally, it has a limit of ten Golden Pistol Goons per tower and a limit of three Golden Tommy Goon 1s and Golden Tommy Goon 2s per tower.

Strategy

[edit]
  • You can only place a maximum of five Golden Crook Bosses.
    • If you have other towers without placement limits (such as the Minigunner and the Militant) then it is best to use them after you have got five Golden Crook Bosses.
  • The Golden Crook Boss is well worth its cost mid to late-game, and it does a great job at dealing damage, especially when the goons are included.
    • In some regards, the Golden Crook Boss is superior to the Minigunner, but it does have a hefty placement limit, and it often relies on the goons that can be killed easily.
  • Do not rely entirely on the goons as their low health makes them vulnerable to enemy collision and abilities that deal damage.
  • If you are on a map where units can consistently target enemies from further away, such as Crossroads or Honey Valley, the units that spawn from the Golden Crook Boss may prove quite useful in providing extra damage, especially against slower enemies.
    • You may also use towers, such as the Electroshocker, Frost Blaster or Freezer, to slow down enemies, giving the units more time to shoot at enemies.
    • Do note, however, that there is a limit on how many of them can be spawned from a single Golden Crook Boss. Additionally, they all have lifespans, making them last on the map for only a few minutes.
  • It may be useful to keep skipping waves in order to keep the Golden Crook Boss's units attacking so they can stack more.
    • Do be aware that you may be overwhelmed by the amount of enemies, so make sure you are safe before skipping.
  • The Field Medic can protect the Golden Crook Boss's units from attacks that can damage unit, such as stomps, so it can be useful to pair this tower with the Mercenary Base in modes like Hardcore mode or Polluted Wasteland II, allowing you to stack up a lot of units.
    • Be aware that this may cause major performance issues if there are too many units present.

Trivia

[edit]
  • The current upgrade names are a reference to the text that appeared in the upgrade descriptions of the Crook Boss before the MEGA Update, which could have been considered the upgrade names for the tower.
    • The Level 1-3 upgrade names are the same as the Crook Boss before the MEGA Update.
    • These upgrade names were a reference to the Mafia City meme, as the Crook Boss was originally a reference to that meme.
  • The former second Level 2 upgrade name, Goldeneye, is a reference to the James Bond franchise.
    • The name originally comes from Operation Goldeneye, a plan by Commander Ian Fleming to monitor the alliance between Francoist Spain and the Axis powers during World War II.
    • Ian Fleming would later use the name for his estate in Jamaica, where he wrote the James Bond series.
    • GoldenEye would be used for the title of the 17th film in the James Bond film series, starring Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in 1995.
    • Officially, the upgrade name was based on the GoldenEye 007 Nintendo 64 video game, released in 1997.
  • The former second Level 3 upgrade name, M1927, is the name of a Thompson gun. However, at Level 3 both the Default and Golden skins wielded an M1A1 Thompson. They did not wield any weapons similar to the M1927 Thompson until Level 4.
  • The former second Level 4 upgrade name, Level 100 BOSS, is most likely a reference to the Mafia City meme.
    • This is because originally, the Crook Boss was a reference to the this meme.
  • Alien Focus skin of the Crook Boss is the second most expensive items purchasable in the game with coins, at Coin 1,346,914,768.
    • The cost is most likely jokes and that this skin is not meant to be obtained this way.
