Description

[edit]

Area 51 was a nighttime map that was based on the Nevada Test and Training Range, more commonly known as Area 51. Due to the high secrecy of the place, it has been rumored that the place contains proof of extraterrestrial evidence, such as aliens.

This was the event map for the Area 51 Event. Players started with CashScript error: No such module "Money". (CashScript error: No such module "Money". for players in the community group). While you could choose the difficulty of the map, this had relatively little effect on gameplay, except that harder difficulties gave more money per wave (ironically making it easier) and increased how many Coin Coins and Experience EXP you got. Prior to the 20th of September 2019, players were also rewarded with the Commando upon triumph, but only if the mode is Normal, Hard or Insane modes.

Design & Path

[edit]

Area 51 took place in an expansive desert. The map was a military base, with helipads, runways, hangers and the American flag all surrounded by a perimeter fence. Various military residential buildings could also be seen. There were very few landscape features, though sand hills could be seen outside the fence and several rocks inside the fence.

The grey path started from a mystic half-portal with particles emitting from it. It cut into the perimeter fence and rotated around the various buildings within the fence. It ended at a hanger that contained shelves and a UFO.

Rewards

[edit]

The game calculated how much Coin Coins and Experience EXP based on how many waves you survived.

Area 51's rewards were based on the difficulty selected at the beginning of the match. The equations for both Coin Coins and Experience EXP were the same as the ones used in regular matches. The equations can be found here.

Badges

[edit]

There were also a few badges which you could obtain when playing this map during the event, which may have additional rewards alongside the badge. These were:

Wave Structure

[edit]

Area 51's wave bonus as based on the difficulty selected at the beginning of the match. The equations were the same as the ones used in regular matches. The equations can be found here.

The waves in Area 51 also followed these timings:

Waves Wave Time Skip Time[1]
1-9 1:00 0:20[2]
10-16 10:00 3:20[3]
17-19 16:40 5:33[4]
20 16:40 N/A

Bolded names indicates a enemy type's debut.

Strategy

[edit]
  • The points where the path takes corners is obviously where most of your towers should be placed.
  • Cliff towers, such as the Outlaw, can cover most of the map if placed correctly.
  • If you can help it, try not to place your towers too close to each other as some attacks affect towers in an area.
  • You get paychecks towards the end of the round, so expensive towers, like the Turret or Commando, can be gotten by the end of the game.
  • You cannot place any towers outside the perimeter fence.
  • Towers that are non-humanoid (like the Turret) are excellent against enemies on the last few waves, as they cannot target non-humanoids.

Trivia

[edit]
  • This map (and the event itself) was made to "celebrate" the Facebook event Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us becoming viral.
    • The enemies that spawn, Raiders, were a reference to this.
    • The other enemies that spawn, namely the Aliens, were a reference to the conspiracy theories surrounding Area 51.
  • Area 51 was the first, and only, map to give paychecks to players.
    • It was also the first map to spawn random amounts of enemies.
