Description

The Demoman is a starter splash damage tower that can be bought in the store for Error creating thumbnail: File missing 200. While targeting a specific enemy, it will also affect those around the target, dealing splash damage.

At Levels 0-2, the Demoman takes one second to aim at an enemy before throwing its explosive grenades. This only affects the damage for the first throw, as it means the Demoman has to wait a second before throwing it. While it is aiming, it will focus on one enemy until it throws its explosive grenade, after which it can target a different one. If the targeted enemy dies, the Demoman will continue targeting it, though its grenade will not land where it died, it will throw it further away, which is generally the area where the enemy would have travelled to if it did not die. The Demoman will also continue to aim at that enemy even if it leaves its range, allowing it to attack outside of its range. After the first throw, while the Demoman still aims, this does not affect its firerate. The explosion caused by the Demoman is separated into two spheres. Enemies in the inner sphere will be dealt 100% of the stated damage, while damage in the outer sphere decreases linearly by distance from the edge of the inner sphere to the edge of the outer sphere. The Demoman can also damage Lead enemies.

The Demoman is great for large hordes of non-boss enemies, except for those immune to splash damage. It is relatively weak against major bosses, though it can be useful in tackling the enemies that spawn from some major bosses. The Demoman is considered an early game to mid-game tower, though in late game it can be quite useful for swarm-clearing when multiple are placed down.

Strategy

  • The Demoman can outshine the Sniper and Soldier as a cheap tower, as its versatility is exceptional.
  • The main weakness of the Demoman is its slow firerate and projectile.
    • Faster enemies, such as the Bolt, can easily get out of the range of the Demoman.
      • At later Levels, the Demoman has faster projectile and much faster firerate, making it easier to deal with them.
      • You can also use a Commander or DJ Booth to remedy this as they boost firerate and range respectively.
    • Additionally, these enemies may get out of range of the explosion as it takes time for the projectile to leave the Demoman and hit the path.
  • At Level 0-2, the Demoman has an aim time. While it is aiming, it will focus on one enemy until it throws its grenade. Additionally, it will never stop aiming at that specific enemy.
    • Because of this, it can actually attack that enemy even if it gets out of its range.
    • This also means that it will not stop aiming at it even if it dies, which in some cases may make the grenades land in an area where there are no enemies.
  • The Demoman can be used to kill Lead enemies.
  • The Demoman's firerate is lower than the Rocketeer and Mortar, and the Demoman does not have a placement limit. Therefore, it may be more beneficial to use the Demoman over these towers in certain situations. Though to compensate, the Demoman overall has lower DPS, so having no placement limit is a great feature.

Trivia

  • The Demoman was inspired by Team Fortress 2's RED Demoman.
    • The first and second versions of the Level 3, 4 and 5 Default skin were a direct reference to this as they both wore a black vest with a red shirt underneath.
    • The Level 2 and 3 upgrades are direct references to unlockable weapons for the Demoman.
    • The Fortress skin is directly based on the RED Demoman.
  • The Level 2 Demoman throws Steil Grenades, a possible reference to the steils in R2DA.
    • The Level 3+ Demoman uses a Chinalake, a reference to R2DA.
  • The Demoman is purchased as part of the Tutorial, if the Tutorial is started using the objective that appears for every new player.

Update History

For previous cosmetic variations, see the gallery page.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 Damage dealt in the inner explosion sphere. Splash damage is decreased linearly from the edge of the inner explosion sphere to the edge of the outer explosion sphere, if the enemy is in the outer explosion sphere.
  2. 2.0 2.1 Aim Time happens before the Demoman throws a grenade. This does not affect its firerate.
  3. 3.0 3.1 DPS does not consider projectile travel time.
