Description

The Golden Cowboy is a golden perk for the Cowboy, unlocked from the Golden Skincrate for   50,000, if you have the Cowboy. It can also appear in the daily skin store for   70,000.

While initially it has a fast firerate, it deals moderate damage with a fairly low range. On later levels, the Golden Cowboy gains much higher damage, higher range and a faster firerate. The Golden Cowboy can also generate cash every sixth shot. The amount of shots needed for the Golden Cowboy to generate cash can be seen above its tower icon in the upgrade box or when you hover your cursor over it. After firing the last shot, it will spin its gun for a short while. The Spin Time is decreased at higher Levels. This ability can act as a primary or secondary source of economy.

The Golden Cowboy is considered an all round tower. Its DPS makes it decent to defend early and mid-game, while its ability to generate cash can make it useful for the entire match.

In comparison to its normal counterpart, the Cowboy, the Golden Cowboy has higher damage, slightly higher range at Level 0 and it generates more money. It is, however, more expensive to place down and upgrade.

The Golden Cowboy has a placement limit of six per player.

Strategy

  • The Golden Cowboy is a great all-round tower, being able to handle earlier waves and later waves on most gamemodes.
    • Early on during the game, you may want to place down multiple Level 0 Golden Cowboys because of their low price.
      • Due to its low placement limit of 6, it is unable to deal with the later waves on its own in terms of DPS, though its money generation can still be effective in the later waves.
  • The Golden Cowboy generates a specified amount of money every sixth shot from Levels 0-3 and every twelfth shot at Levels 4-5.
    • Later on during the game, higher level Golden Cowboys will be able to earn lots of money from enemies, being on par with the Farm, and even outperforming it.
    • If you want to use this tower for farming early on, multiple Level 2 Golden Cowboys can be quite effective at generating money.
      • The amount of cash earned can be increased even further with the Commander and Cooldown Flag Firerate Buff.
      • Enemies summoned by other enemies or sent by players do not count for cash shot.
        • Any enemy that the game does not consider a summoned enemy can still be generated cash from. This includes actually summoned enemies that the game does not consider summoned, like the Slime from the Slime, or enemies converted in a way that makes them look like a summoned enemy, such as Corpses.
      • Additionally, you can increase the money earned by the Golden Cowboy by placing it near the start of the path, ensuring that no other towers can damage enemies before the Golden Cowboy.
      • While the Golden Cowboy cannot damage lead enemies, like the Lead, shots towards these enemies will contribute to the Golden Cowboy's cash shot.
  • The DJ Booth can be very useful at decreasing the Golden Cowboy's high upgrade costs.
    • It can also be useful for further increasing its high range.

Trivia

  • The two former descriptions for the Golden Cowboy are incorrect, as the Golden Cowboy generates money every sixth or twelfth shot, instead of fifth or eighth.
    • This is because the description is referring to previous versions of the normal Cowboy, though these are outdated even for it.
  • The Golden Cowboy is one of the three economy towers in the game, with the other two being the Farm and Cowboy.
  • The Level 5 upgrade name, Wildest Of The West, is a reference to the Cowboy's old ability, Wildest of The West which it gained at Level 5 before the Overhaul Update.
  • The Golden Cowboy is the first golden perk to give a tower a placement limit. Which would later be followed by the Golden Minigunner.
