"Charge a laser and release massive damage at deadly rates!"
―Store Description

Description

The Accelerator is a hardcore tower that attacks in delayed bursts. It has a charge-up that happens before the burst and a cooldown that happens after the burst. During the burst, it can deal massive amounts of damage in a short period of time, but does no damage in between bursts. It can be purchased from the store for Error creating thumbnail: File missing 2,500 and has a level requirement of Level 50.

The Accelerator must charge-up its plasma gun before it can attack enemies. During its attack, it will fire in quick, high-damaging bursts, remaining focused on one enemy until it is killed, leaves the Accelerator's range, or the overcharge ends. The Accelerator will deal a set amount of damage before cooling down with its left hand, indicating that the plasma gun has overcharged. After this, there will be a cooldown lasting a couple of seconds, after which it charges up again. The amount of damage needed for the Accelerator to overcharge can be seen above its tower icon in the upgrade box or when you hover your cursor over it. Damage can still go above this threshold, though the Accelerator will stop attacking immediately once it does so. For example, if the Accelerator deals 8,999 damage out of 9,000 and has 10 damage, it will deal 9,009 damage total in that burst, assuming the enemy it attacks has at least 10 health. The Accelerator can also damage Lead enemies from Level 0 and detect Hidden enemies from Level 1.

The Accelerator is considered a mid to late-game tower because of its high damage capabilities, but extremely high cost.

The Accelerator has a placement limit of five per player. This is increased to eight in PVP mode.

Strategy

  • Multiple Level 2 Accelerators are a cost-efficient way to get through the mid-game, as their DPS is usually high enough to deal with most mid-game enemies.
    • The Farm or other towers that generate income like the Golden Cowboy are strongly recommended, as the Accelerator's upgrades are very expensive, especially its later upgrades. To further decrease the cost of Accelerator's upgrades, the DJ Booth is a very great choice due to its discount buff.
  • The Accelerator has a very long overcharge before having to recharge, therefore buffs from the Commander, DJ Booth, Medic or Mercenary Base are usually fully effective on it.
    • The DJ Booth's purple track can still be helpful in boosting its already massive range.
  • The Accelerator's lock-on mechanic can be a disadvantage. For example, if the Accelerator locks onto a strong enemy like the Fallen Giant, it will stay locked on until the strong enemy is defeated, leaves its range or the Accelerator charges up again.
    • This can result in the Accelerator leaking other enemies while it is distracted, therefore it is highly recommended to bring other towers to deal with such.
  • The Accelerator's lengthy charge-up and cooldown times hinder it greatly, with enemies getting out of range before the Accelerator can defeat them in the worst cases. It is important to utilize other towers alongside the Accelerator to prevent any potential leaks.
    • Due to this and other factors, such as its high cost, it is generally infeasible to use the Accelerator in the early game, with its sluggish charge-up at lower levels resulting in some fast enemies leaking.
  • The Accelerator should be allowed to cover large amounts of the path to maximize its DPS. The DJ Booth and Ranger are especially great in this regard for boosting the Accelerator's range.
  • Slowing towers like the Electroshocker or Cryomancer can be used to support the Accelerator, slowing the enemy down and giving the Accelerator enough time to charge-up and attack them.

Trivia

  • The Accelerator is loosely based on the Sparky from Clash Royale.
    • The Accelerator's plasma gun is loosely based on the Gluon Gun from Half-Life.
  • Prior to the 12th of March 2022, the Accelerator was the only tower that could receive cash from summoned enemies.
    • After the update, the Accelerator is no longer able to receive cash from these enemies in most gamemodes.
  • The Accelerator used to have hidden detection at Level 0; however, as of the Unwavering Tides Update this is no longer the case.
  • The Accelerator has the third-highest placement cost of Error creating thumbnail: File missing$7,500, being behind the Turret's placement cost of Error creating thumbnail: File missing$8,250 and the Juggernaut's placement cost of Error creating thumbnail: File missing$8,500
  • The current Accelerator Level 5 upgrade name is an acronym for the word "VOID" (Vessel Of Infinite Destruction).
    • This name may be a tribute to the Level 5 upgrade name used before the 5th of May 2023, "Energy from the Void".
  • The Accelerator was initially planned to be the reward for the original Polluted Wasteland map before it was turned into a Hardcore tower.
  • The Accelerator was originally intended to have drones that also fired plasma beams.
    • The drones can be seen on some images released around the release of Hardcore Testing BETA, such as the icon used for Tower Defense Simulator at the time.
  • Prior to the Frost Invasion Update, it was possible to see some of the Accelerator's statistics from private testing sessions in the lobby. These were:
    • Damage: 3
    • Firerate: 0.2
    • Range: 18
    • Placement limit: 5
  • Prior to the 5th of May 2023, the Accelerator had its damage statistic vary per firerate.
    • The Accelerator was originally supposed to increase its damage over time by gaining a Damage Buff.
      • This was most likely changed because the Accelerator would have been very similar to the Phaser from Tower Battles.
  • The Accelerator likes to eat hamburgers only on Monday and Fridays, as revealed by the Narrator in his annoyance, which is then confirmed by the Commander.
    • In The Final Act Event opening cutscene, the Accelerator is also shown preparing to eat a hamburger too.

Update History

For previous cosmetic variations, see the gallery page.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 The Charge-Up happens when the Accelerator first starts attacking or its cooldown ends. This is indicated by an animation where the Accelerator charges up its plasma gun.
  2. 2.0 2.1 The Cooldown happens when the Overcharge occurs. This is indicated by an animation where the Accelerator waves its hand.
  3. 3.0 3.1 DPS is calculated as Overcharge ÷ (Charge-Up + Cooldown + [Overcharge ÷ Damage x Tick]).
  4. Obtained by purchasing a Accelerator Plush or Mini Accelerator Plush.
  5. Obtained by purchasing a Patient Zero Mini Plush.
