Warden (Modern Enemy)
- "Incoming shielded enemy!
All attacks will do 2 damage at max to him!" - ―Beginning of Wave 35 (Fallen)
Description
The Templar is a boss which appears on wave 35 on the Fallen difficulty. It wields a minigun which can be used to fire at and stun towers, and also has a constant shield effect, which makes almost every attack deal two damage at maximum, with the exception of collision damage. Although the shield visual will disappear sometime after spawning, the Templar still retains this shielding effect, as the visual goes away just to get out of the way.
The Templar appears to be a futuristic warrior, with shiny metal armor and a laser minigun which glows neon red. It is almost covered with its black and light grey armor, with the exception of some of it its arms which reveal a light green tone. It wears a helmet with horns, with its eyes covered with a red strobe of light. It is slightly larger than the average zombie.
This only appears in Fallen mode. This does not have a counterpart in Beginners, Molten or Golden modes.
Strategy
- Towers which focus on fast firerate, such as the Minigunner, Crook Boss or Sentry, are highly recommended, as they will not be heavily impacted by the shield, while slow firing towers, such as the Outlaw, will be much less effective.
- You may want to set your towers to target Strongest so that they can take down the Templar quicker.
- However, be aware that the Templar will usually spawn behind, or be overtaken by, faster zombies such as the Uber Mystery.
- Also be aware that the Summoner Boss usually spawns with the Templar, increasing the amount of zombies to defeat.
- Spamming low level towers, such as the Scout or Hunter, may be largely useful, as investing into more expensive may prove inefficient for the cost, or downright useless.
- Using the Military Base or Enforcer's SWAT Van will be largely helpful due to its ability to bypass the shield effect upon collision and deal full damage.
- Note, this only applies to collision damage. Damage from its cannon or guns will still be capped at two.
- Use the Pyromancer to reduce the Templar's speed so towers can attack it for longer.
- The Electroshocker can also slow down the Templar.
- The Medic can be useful in cleansing nearby towers that have been stunned by the Templar, so long they aren't stunned themselves.
- The Swarmer and Soldier can basically perform at their maximum power against the Templar due to their unique way of dealing damage.
- Explosive towers, such as the Rocketeer and Mortar, can deal maximum damage towards the Templar (and other shielded enemies). However, they aren't favoured too much due to their slow firerate.
Trivia
- Templars are likely named after the Knights Templar, a Catholic medieval chivalric order, perhaps most infamously know for the Crusades.
- The Templar's helmet is similar to the Great Helm, a helmet common in the Middle Ages (and the Crusades).
