Description
The Sledger is a melee ground tower, formerly unlocked by triumphing Outpost 32 as part of the Frost Invasion Event. During the Frost Invasion Event, the Sledger was purchasable via a limited time gamepass for
500, and for
600 during Memorial Day Sale 2022. The Sledger is currently obtainable through a limited time gamepass, costing
600 to purchase.
The Sledger attacks enemies by bashing them with its hammer. This damages enemies, and on Level 2+, freezes them for a set duration. Enemies immune to freeze cannot be frozen, while larger enemies get frozen for a shorter amount of time than average sized enemies. Enemies that are on fire from a tower like the Pyromancer also cannot be frozen. Any frozen enemy that is set on fire will thaw. Importantly, a Sledger is unable to freeze the same enemy twice in the row with two consecutive attacks. At Level 3 and 4, it deals triple damage to frozen and chilled enemies, whether they are frozen from the Sledger or any other tower that inflicts these effects (like the Freezer). At certain levels, it also gains the ability to hit multiple enemies in a single swing, which varies with upgrades. At Level 5, the Sledger also gains defense dropping, dropping by 10% every hit. It can only decrease an enemy's defense by 33%. For example, if an enemy has 50% defense, it will be decreased by 16%. This defense dropping does not stack with other similar freezing towers' defense dropping (such as from the Freezer). The Sledger also gains lead penetration at Level 4, though it does not have hidden or flying detection.
The Sledger is considered a viable mid-game tower due to its average cost and decent DPS. In later waves, its DPS is overshadowed by many other towers, but it makes up for this by having the ability to freeze enemies at Level 2+, as well as dealing double damage to frozen enemies at Level 3 and 4. The Sledger pairs well with other Sledgers and the Commander.
The Sledger has a placement limit of six per player.

Strategy
- Early on, the Sledger is a strong tool that, while it can deal damage to weaker hordes, is mainly used to slow down singular high health enemies, such as the Abnormal Boss and Scout. This extends over to the mid game where it can be used for enemies such as the Giant Boss, and especially effective against faster enemies like the Amalgamation.
- A Level 2 Sledger has the greatest single target freezing capabilites of any level. However, you may also want to get a few Level 1 Sledgers to provide supplementary damage against hordes, or even a Level 3 Sledger to slow down those hordes.
- How you intend to use the Sledger here late game is dependent on what you want to achieve with it.
- If you want to maximise damage, packing together five Level 4 Sledgers alongside one Level 5 Sledger will achieve it, as it is the easiest for all the Sledgers to benefit from the doubled damage.
- Bosses are not immune to being slowed down from chillness. This means that the Sledger can deal triple damage to them, as long as they have chillness effect applied. This necessitates the use of towers that can chill, like the Freezer or Cryomancer.
- Level 5 Sledgers are able to drop defense, 10% per hit (for each enemy hit) and up to 33%, which can be useful against enemies with defense like the Giant Boss. This defense drop does not stack with other freezing towers, like the Freezer.
- Alternatively, if you want to maximise slowness, spreading out Level 5 Sledgers will achieve the greatest effect.
- This is rarely necessary if enemies do not make it very far, but can be extremely useful at slowing down entire waves of enemies to minimise risk of loss.
- Be aware that enemies with freeze immunity cannot be frozen, such as the Summoner Boss. This also means they are not able to take the extra damage from Level 3 and 4 Sledgers.
- If you want to maximise damage, packing together five Level 4 Sledgers alongside one Level 5 Sledger will achieve it, as it is the easiest for all the Sledgers to benefit from the doubled damage.
- Because of its short range and slow swingrate, the Sledger has trouble dealing with fast enemies, like the Glitch and Bug.
- The DJ Booth can help increase the range of the Sledger, but it will not be a significant buff compared to most other towers.
- Unlike the Gladiator, the Sledger's increased range will allow it to hit enemies that are further away than normal due to its hitbox.
- The Commander can decrease its swingrate, which is particularly effective on levels where the Sledger is more DPS-oriented.
- The DJ Booth can help increase the range of the Sledger, but it will not be a significant buff compared to most other towers.
- The Sledger does not gain hidden detection at any level, meaning it cannot detect hidden enemies, such as the Shadow.
- However, if another detectable enemy is in range and the Sledger is at Level 1 or 3+, then a hidden enemy may be indirectly hit by the Sledger.
- The hidden enemy can also be frozen, so long as the Sledger is Level 3+.
- A Level 4+ Ace Pilot near the Sledger will grant it 15 seconds of hidden detection at the start of every wave.
- Be aware that enemies that are already frozen do not have their freeze times increased when hit by the Sledger. Additionally, the same Sledger cannot freeze the same enemy twice in a row.
- However, if another detectable enemy is in range and the Sledger is at Level 1 or 3+, then a hidden enemy may be indirectly hit by the Sledger.
- The Sledger cannot freeze an enemy that is currently on fire, making it ineffective when used alongside towers that can set enemies on fire, like the Pyromancer, Archer and Jester.
- The Sledger has a small placement footprint, meaning that it can squeeze in beside other towers quite easily, if space is a problem.
- It is best when the Sledger is placed near by corners as it maximizes its range.
- It is best to clump Sledgers near towers that deal high DPS, like the Accelerator (which also gives it time to charge up) and Ranger.
- Try not to place the Sledger on extremely high ground on maps like Space City as its hitbox will not be able to hit enemies on the path.
- Uniquely, it can hit flying enemies, like the Balloon, from this position, although another detectable enemy must be in range. Even so, this is extremely rare and not viable.
Trivia
- The Sledger, Frost Blaster, Executioner, Elf Camp and Jester are currently the only event towers to have a placement limit, though the Commando used to have a placement limit before the placement cap was removed.
- The Sledger shares its level 2 icon with the Archer's Level 3 icon.
- The Sledger currently shares its upgrade icons with the Gladiator.
- The Sledger is the third melee tower to be added to the game, with the others being the Gladiator, Slasher and Warden.
- When an enemy is hit by the Sledger, it will emit blood particles.
- The sound that the Sledger makes when it hits an enemy is the same sound that the Vindicator (Legacy) makes when it hits a tower using its hammer.
- The Level 4 and 5 upgrade names are references to the Frost Invasion Event.
- The Level 4 upgrade name, Outpost 32 Research, is a reference to the Outpost 32, a research facility used as a map for the Frost Invasion Event.
- The Level 5 upgrade name, Into The Frost Dimension, is a reference to the dimension enemies from the Frost Invasion Event came from.
Notes
- ↑ At Level 1 and 3+, its pierce damage can indirectly hit hidden enemies, but this tower cannot directly target hidden enemies.
- ↑ Frozen damage is dealt when hitting enemies that are already frozen or chilled. Frozen damage is triple the regular damage.
- ↑ DPS assumes only one enemy is hit and is not frozen.
