Overview

edit

The Pyromancer is an intermediate tower that costs   1,500 to purchase from the store. It is primarily regarded as a support tower for its ability to weaken enemies rather than deal direct, high damage. The Pyromancer utilizes a consistent stream of fire to damage enemies and apply stacking burn effects, which increase in duration with each hit. These stacks deal damage over time until they expire, allowing the Pyromancer to gradually chip away at tougher enemies while also reducing their defenses.

At Level 3, the Pyromancer’s flames can melt up to 50% of enemy defense, reducing 2% per burn stack. At higher levels, this effect becomes more potent, lowering defense by 5% per stack. The burn status also synergizes with other debuff effects such as Bleed and Bee, making towers like the Slasher, Swarmer, or Toxic Gunner especially effective when paired with the Pyromancer.

At max level, the Pyromancer gains the Afterburn passive, which generates a wall of fire each time it attacks. This wall lingers for 5 seconds and applies additional burn stacks to all enemies that pass through it. Enemies set alight take continuous damage even when not targeted directly, allowing the Pyromancer to excel at crowd control and sustained area denial. While its overall damage output is moderate, its synergy with other debuff and defense-reducing towers makes it a versatile and valuable support option, especially against high-defense enemies.

Pros and Cons

edit
Pros Cons
  • Excellent crowd control allows the Pyromancer to effectively handle large groups of weaker enemies.
  • Consistent burn damage provides reliable chip damage over time.
  • High defense reduction for a low cost makes the Pyromancer an effective counter against Armored enemies.
  • Strong synergy with other damage-over-time towers such as the Slasher and Toxic Gunner.
  • The Afterburn passive possesses infinite pierce, allowing it to damage all enemies within range.
  • Afterburn damage scales with buffs from towers such as the Mercenary Base and DJ Booth, dealing half of the Pyromancer’s current damage.
  • Effective when placing multiple Pyromancers to increase area coverage.
  • Capable of damaging Hidden and Lead enemies.
  • Affordable upgrade costs make the Pyromancer a viable alternative to other crowd control towers such as the Rocketeer.
  • Reliable counter against Breakers.
  • Low single-target DPS makes the Pyromancer ineffective against bosses.
  • Burn stacks require time to build, reducing efficiency against fast enemies such as the Bolt.
  • Lacks target prioritization, leading to unfocused damage output.
  • Mediocre cost-efficiency at every level besides base and maximum level.
  • Relies heavily on synergy with other towers to reach full potential.
  • Enemies with the Burn immunity or Lantern attributes are immune to its effects.
  • Performance is somewhat dependent on Afterburn’s lingering duration and cooldown.
  • Afterburn has a 2-second cooldown period after flames extinguish.
  • Competes with other crowd control options such as the Mortar, which may be more effective in certain scenarios.

Lore

edit

Prior to the outbreak of Patient Zero that brought forth the apocalypse, the Pyromancer served as a firefighter. He was a kindhearted and determined individual dedicated to saving lives and protecting others. However, when society collapsed, he joined the T.D.S. Organization in hopes of putting an end to the spreading infection.

Despite his resolve, he struggled to adapt to modern weaponry. Guns and explosives were foreign to him, leaving him with only the one tool he had long despised—the flamethrower. Now forced to wield the very element he once fought to extinguish, the Pyromancer turned his flames toward a new purpose: to burn back the darkness overtaking the world.

During the Molten Operation, however, his resolve was tested. The enemies that breached their defenses were immune to fire, rendering his weapon useless. Stricken with doubt and fear of irrelevance, the Pyromancer questioned his worth within the organization. Seeking strength, he personally requested an upgrade to ensure such failure would never occur again.

At present, the T.D.S. Organization’s top engineers and scientists are crafting a specialized Golden armor to enhance his endurance and firepower. Yet, with Pumpking Ominous' forces drawing near, one question remains—will the Pyromancer’s renewed flames be enough to protect humanity, or will his legacy fall to ashes once more?

Trivia

edit
  • The Pyromancer's design from levels 0 through 3 use the "Fortress Pyromancer" model from Tower Defense Simulator: Scene Creator.
    • Thus, the design is loosely based off the Pyro from Team Fortress 2.
      • If you enjoy these designs, consider showing the creator of this game, Lowernabover, some support.
  • The Pyromancer's upgrade quotes are a direct reference to the Látom prayer from Fire Force.
  • This Pyromancer rework has gone through 4 redesigns unlike the 3 listed.
    • This is because the original design was created in Roblox Studio, but the creator had forgotten to save the project, thus unintentionally deleting it forever.
      • However, it would have gone unused regardless.
  • This tower was originally going to cause an explosion every time the burn stacks reached their maximum limit.
    • However, not only would this have been extremely overpowered, but this concept was instead moved to the Slayer tower.
  • When the game was in Alpha, this tower's upgrade description was "sans flamey gun".
  • Prior to the Overhaul Update, there was a bug where any Range Buff applied to the Pyromancer (including Platinum and Golden skins) did not affect enemies in their extra range, only affecting them in their initial range.
  • Prior to the Overhaul Update, this tower used to slow down enemies.
    • After the Overhaul Update, the Pyromancer sped up enemies that were on fire, though this has been removed.
  • In the Frost Invasion Event, the Pyromancer dealt twice as much damage to enemies that spawned there.
  • The Pyromancer used to appear alongside the Scout, Commander, Sniper and Minigunner on the "Triumph" screen before the Community Maps Update.
  • The Pyromancer had one of the oldest firing sounds in the game, having kept it since 2020.
    • However, this was later removed due to it being outdated.
  • Despite having the "-mancer" suffix, the Pyromancer is not a mage.
  • The Pyromancer and Cryomancer are arch-nemeses.
    • This is apparently due to the fact that the Pyromancer unintentionally burned the Cryomancer's ice cream when they were children—a cool trick gone wrong.
  • The Pyromancer is a 5-star barbeque chef.
    • However, since he goes on operations so often, he never truly gets the opportunity to showcase his skills.
  • Apparently, the Pyromancer is afraid of any enemy with the burn immunity.
    • Because of this, he had specifically requested for his Golden suit to possess the ability to bypass such defenses.
