Description

[edit]

The Necromancer is a summoner enemy that appears in Easy, Basic Arena PVP, Intermediate, Molten Arena PVP, Casual mode, Challenge Trials, Badlands II and Polluted Wasteland II. It also appears in the tutorial and first chapters of Story mode. It has high health and decent speed. It has one ability where it uses its staff to summon five Skeletons, which may be Hidden. Skeletons were replaced by Brick Men in Headache Headquarters by the Brain Rot modifier.

The Necromancer originally was added as an enemy internally called Summoner with the display name of Necromancer, though on the 24th of February 2024, a new modern version of the legacy Necromancer would be added, which would be identical to the Summoner in terms of design, while also being quite similar in its statistics and ability. The Summoner variant is now rarely used, as it has been slowly replaced by the Necromancer variant in all new modes. Only sometimes Challenge Maps have it still appear. Both of these enemies, despite technically being different enemies, will be listed as one enemy due them being quite similar and serving the same purpose.

In any Challenge Map mode that has the Dark Necromancer and the Enemies Beta modifier active, the Necromancer replaces the Dark Necromancer. The Necromancer can be spawned by the Nuclear Monster with its Nuclear Summon ability and can be spawned by the Conjurer with its Summon ability. The Grave Digger used to spawn it with its Triumphing Sheol ability. It used to also be spawned by the Mystery Boss on the Molten mode before the 11th of December 2024, as well as in Polluted Wasteland II before the Halloween 2022 Update and in Easy mode before the 19th of July 2024.

The Necromancer also appeared in The Classic Event, Tower Defense Simulator x PLS DONATE Event and The Takeover Event.

Appearance

[edit]

The Necromancer is a humanoid with a waist in its rig. It has a very desaturated light green skin color, and some of the skin on its head is missing, exposing a light grey skull. It has a black torso, sleeves, legs and cape. It has a light grey chain wrapped around its torso. It wields a dark brown wooden staff that has a small skull with light red streaks as well as grey horns on top of it, which it uses to summon Skeletons.

Strategy

[edit]
  • The Necromancer can be a threat when it first appears, as it can summon many Skeletons if not killed quickly, creating hordes, especially in groups.
    • Killing the Necromancer before it can summon any Skeletons is recommended.
    • Early game towers like the Soldier, Ace Pilot, Militant, Brawler or Golden Scout can take care of the Necromancer quite quickly.
    • High DPS towers like the Minigunner, Crook Boss and Accelerator can be prepared specifically for this enemy if early game towers are not enough, with use of the Farm to get them as they may be quite expensive.
      • Do note that the Accelerator, if locked onto the Necromancer or other strong enemies, will ignore the Skeletons the Necromancer summons until the targeted enemy is defeated or leaves its range.
      • The Ranger and Sniper struggle against the hordes of Skeletons the Necromancer summons due to their slow firerate. They can be set to Strongest to target and kill the Necromancer while other towers take care of the Skeletons.
    • Area of effect towers, like the Mortar, Rocketeer, Shotgunner or Mercenary Base's Grenadiers can be quite useful as they can damage both the Necromancer and the Skeletons it summons.
    • The Hacker can be decent here, as it damage the Necromancer by converting the summoned Skeletons into hologram clones.
  • The Skeletons the Necromancer summons have a chance to be Hidden, so ensure your towers are upgraded to have hidden detection.
  • In Intermediate mode, the Slime enemy has the potential to turn into the Necromancer. As Slimes often come in large groups, it is easy to get overwhelmed.
  • Do note that you do not earn any money from the summoned enemies.
  • The Necromancer and its Skeletons move at a somewhat fast pace. You may want to use crowd control towers like the Freezer, Warden or Electroshocker, though this is not necessary.
    • Stalling towers with the ability to hit multiple enemies, such as the Electroshocker, Freezer or Frost Blaster are particularly effective against the Necromancer as they can also stall the summoned Skeletons without taking their attention away from the Necromancer.

Trivia

[edit]
  • The Necromancer has the second most gamemode appearances, appearing in seven gamemodes total, behind the Breaker, Breaker2, Breaker3 and Breaker4.
  • The Commander improperly mentioned this enemy as a Dark Necromancer.
  • Skeletons summoned by the Necromancer are called "Summoner's Skeleton" instead of "Necromancer's Skeleton".
    • However, this is not the case in Easy mode. In that mode, the Skeletons are properly called "Necromancer's Skeleton".
    • The Necromancer is also instead referred to as a "Summoner" when it is mentioned in the Halloween 2022 Update's update log.
  • The Necromancer was the only enemy in Headache Headquarters that was not replaced by the Brain Rot modifier in 2024, though in 2025 two more enemies would not be replaced, these being the Speedy Boss and Brute.
    • However, the Skeletons it would usually summon were replaced by Brick Men, and its health was increased to 1,200.
