New enemies incoming!...But they seem off...
Be careful! This enemy is highly resistant and can buff other enemies upon death!

―Commander dialogue on Wave 18 (Golden Mode)

Description

The Golden is an enemy that appears on wave 18 of Golden Mode. It has high hp and moves at an average speed along with defense, but possesses a unique ability in which it can grant the Glimmer attribute to nearby enemies upon death.

Appearance

The Golden is a normal humanoid zombie made purely of gold, with an ombre of gold to orange. With bulging veins with darker colors, the Golden enemy emits a shining effect when walking.

Strategy

  • Most towers can make quick work of the Golden.
    • However, since this enemy becomes densely spammed later on, it is recommended to bring splash towers like the Rocketeer or Mortar.
      • Along with this, splash damage towers can bypass the defense the Golden possesses.
  • Due to the Goldens' ability to buff nearby enemies, it is advised to bring stalling towers like the Freezer to effectively deal with them before other enemies can benefit from it.
    • Incidentally, due to the low health of the Golden, you can kill it before other enemies spawn or get nearby it.

Glimmer

Glimmer is an attribute which grants enemies 100% more hp, 50% more speed, and 5% of the enemies' hp will be added to a shield health. This shield health forces all towers to deal only 1 damage to the enemy with the attribute until the shield is broken.

The only source that can bypass this handicap are explosive based towers.

The 5% shield based hp will always be converted to at least 15 hp.

This attribute is deadly because, while despite the fact it can't stack with other glimmers, it can stack with attributes like bloated or nimble, making the enemy pose a significant threat. However, enemies with this attribute aren't immune to stuns or freeze attacks (unless the enemy had the no stun or no freeze immunity to begin with), meaning towers like the Cryomancer can help counter this attribute. Enemies will also be indicated with a golden shine effect if they possess Glimmer.

Trivia

  • The Golden enemy had an older variation.
    • This was part of the original Golden Mode, but it was removed at a later date.
