This page contains the official story elements included in Act I of the Lunar Overture Event. Most of the content is expressed through cutscenes, though some dialogue is important to the storyline.
Opening Cutscene
This cutscene plays when the timer counts down to 0:00 before the game starts. The map has not yet changed, and the player's point of view is changed to a full screen third person view of the cutscene when the cutscene begins.
Synopsis:
The following summarizes the events shown in the opening cutscene.
A cube that grants godlike powers is situated in a discreet clearing in a forest.
A wizard and woman are fleeing from a rural village the night of a total lunar eclipse. They are being pursued by imperial and monstrous forces, such as knights, citizens of the town, and creatures like Swampers. It appears that they have been running for quite some time, and they have been chased prior to the start of the cutscene. The wizard is already exhausted, and is desperately bent on their survival.
The wizard meets up with the woman and urges for her to flee while he buys her time, but the woman protests, saying that she is unwilling to leave him. The wizard hurriedly tells her to meet up with him in the forest, when they are interrupted by a knight that rounds the corner and begins to charge them. The wizard pushes the woman away and begins to fight the knight.
The woman runs into the forest, apparently not yet pursued. She runs, nearing collapse, when she encounters the strange cube in the forest. Looking for a way to survive their dire circumstances, she approaches the cube and attempts to touch it, despite the increasing amount of pain and resistance she is encountering. After a difficult struggle, she touches the cube, which begins to painfully transform her.
During this process, a Swamper and Pumpkid spot her in the distance.

(stage directions in italics, character name in bold, dialogue spoken by character in normal font) The screen slowly lowers down onto a purple-black cube shimmering with energy, placed in frame below a lunar eclipse that is about to reach totality. Ominous music plays.
The screen snaps into view of a wizard running in the street with a panicked expression. He is dressed in a purple-black garb with gold outlining, and is stumbling as he runs, apparently injured and exhausted. He stumbles up an intersection, to face a woman dressed in a purple dress, a white blouse, and a red-gold tiara, and begins to gesture wildly.
Wizard: I can buy you some time. But you need to get out of here, now!
Woman: (also gesturing) I am not leaving you to deal with this alone.
Wizard: (shakes head and points) I promise, I will meet up with you in the forest. But whatever you do, don't do anything until I-
A knight runs out from behind a corner and skids to a stop.
Knight: (brandishing a sword): Hey!
Wizard: (pushing the woman away): Go! NOW!
The woman sprints away. The wizard clasps his hands together, and a high-pitched tone begins to ring as bright blue-white flames start to appear in his hands as the knight begins to run toward him.
Wizard:: Arghh!
The wizard thrusts his hands out toward the knight.
The frame shifts to the woman running alone in the dark forest, trying to escape. The frame expands as the woman gets closer to the dark purple treeline.
The frame again shifts to a close-up of the woman. She is panting, exhausted, and sprinting through the forest as fast as she can. A moment later, she wheezes, stumbles, and falls to the ground, gasping for air. Glancing up a moment later to try to continue her escape, she sees the cube right in front of her and lets out a noise of surprise.
Woman: Huh?
The ground in front of the cube is cracked and molten, purple magma creeping out in veins around it. The cube pulses with energy, purple energy lines marking the surface of the cube in a non-linear manner, drawn toward the center as if getting pulled in. The body of the cube is black and voidlike, and purple humanoids stick out of the surface erratically.
The woman, surprised, begins to walk towards it. Purple electricity arcs out of the cube.
Woman: (whispering) What is this?
The frame shifts to a frontal view of the woman at different angles, blinking as she walks unsteadily towards the cube. As she gets closer, the saturation of the frame decreases. She gasps, reaching out her hand to try and touch the cube, as she does so, the ground shakes and she falls. She groans with exertion as she falls to the ground, painfully inching towards the surface of the cube. She makes an effort to stand, but she is too exhausted to do so, and makes a half-step as she falls toward the cube, hand outstretched. An ominous noise plays.
Woman: Agggrraahhh!
As she touches the cube, her hands glow red, and her eyes begin to change from black to a gold-violet gradient. She screams as she makes contact with the cube, the scream echoing as the frame enters a zooming-out bird's eye view of the woman. She shakes and seizures as she maintains contact with the cube, her skin and clothes glowing a deep red-purple, but is unable to break contact with the cube. As the frame zooms out, the sound fades, and a sound like tolling bells is heard.
The frame finally cuts to a landscape view of the larger forest with the cube inside of it. A pillar of deep violet light extends fully upwards from the cube while the woman is making contact with the cube, and the cube glows with a violent purple light. The frame zooms out once more to reveal a Swamper and a Pumpkid facing the location of the cube.

- I will admit, I underestimated you..
But, your wasted efforts won't change anything.. For once I am done with you..
You will be nothing more than a lost soul-..! - ―Swamp Monster dialogue on Wave 12 (Foggy Forest)
Description
The Swamp Monster was the final boss of the second night in the Solar Eclipse Event. It had a large amount of health for its appearance and a very slow speed. When using its Trident Throw ability, it would stop moving and threw four tridents at towers, stunning them. It was immune to being frozen and slowed down by the Toxic Gunner. Additionally, the Electroshocker could only slow it down instead of stunning it.
Appearance
The Swamp Monster had dark green and green skin. It was faceless but had two large yellow eyes on its torso and one on its left arm, and two large yellow eyes on its back and the back of its left arm. It had four dark green tentacles, all of which held a blue glowing trident, which it used to stun towers.
Strategy
- Use high DPS towers, such as the Swarmer, Minigunner or Accelerator to defeat this.
- While it may look like the Accelerator does not attack the Swamp Monster, it is only a visual bug. The Accelerator does deal damage to it.
- The Commander is recommended to boost the firerate of the towers.
- The Trident Throw ability will make the Swamp Monster stop moving for a long period of time, you can use this to your advantage to deal as much damage as possible.
- While the Trident Throw ability cannot directly target units, it can still damage them.
- Because of its immunities, it can only be slowed down by the Electroshocker.
- However, because of its Energy Immunity, it could only be slowed down instead of completely stopped. Its large size also reduced the Electroshocker's shock time.
